Our Story

It all started in 1998 when Paul Raymond opened the first La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries on Hunt Club Road. The business expanded to the west end of Cyrville Road in the early 2000s, and in 2011, local Ottawa natives James and David Maxwell purchased the dealership, continuing its growth and commitment to quality home furnishings.

Since their ownership, another three stores have been acquired in the Kingston, Kanata and Gatineau locations. Within all of the twists and turns of the century, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston continue to grow and be Canadian-owned and operated to this day. At La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston, our local Canadian team is always under the mindset of creating Customers for Life. What does this mean exactly? It means creating bonds with our customers like no other furniture store–creating bonds with people who purchase our products inside and outside the showrooms. 

While making new bonds with customers is equally as important to us, there’s nothing like seeing a familiar face walk in asking for our help once more. This mindset has built trust in our community and has made over 200,000 families come home to comfortable furniture for 25 years.

Since the first store opening under our dealership, La-Z-Boy Ottawa, Gatineau and Kingston have been proudly Canadian-owned and operated. 

While most of our living room furniture comes from our large production plant in Dayton, Tennessee, we also source from other places like Louisville, Quebec for Canadel Custom Dining, Mexico for some reclining furniture, and parts of Asia like Vietnam and Thailand for other unique products.

Even though our furniture is sourced globally, approximately 70% of our revenue stays in Canada, directly supporting Canadian companies, businesses, and suppliers. Our contribution goes far beyond manufacturing—our service, warehousing, and after-sales support are entirely Canadian.
