Just beyond the city limits of Ottawa, Arnprior offers a peaceful retreat where natural beauty spills effortlessly into every home.
Take this design story as an example. La-Z-Boy interior designer, Zeina Badawi, worked on this project back in 2019. She had helped a couple transform their newly built home into the home of their dream with the help of La-Z-Boy.
So, what did Zeina do to make this space look stunning? Let’s dive into the process that brought this home to life.
Our story began when Tracy and David Reid, a couple from Arnprior, visited our La-Z-Boy store in Kanata. With a brand-new home to furnish, they were initially overwhelmed by the options and unsure where to start. With all of the selection at their disposal, they got help from the La-Z-Boy team and were thrilled to learn about our complimentary design services.
Tracy and David wanted a space that reflected a modern urban look, something they felt very confident about. With that in mind, Zeina took on this project intending to craft a coastal, airy aesthetic that would suit the client’s desire for a peaceful retreat.
“The idea was to create a space that felt like an escape from the daily hustle and bustle,” Zeina explains.
Because of the home’s open-concept layout–and the fact that it was a new build–Zeina had a lot of room to work with, including a living room, dining room, and sunroom. These rooms were all designed to create a cohesive, soothing environment.
Below, you’ll see how the space looked before and after the La-Z-Boy transformation.

When it came to furnishing Tracy and David’s home, Zeina focused on creating a seamless and inviting atmosphere throughout the main level of the home. She started by reviewing the architect’s floor plans while they were building the home and then visited the site to ensure she had the most accurate measurements.
Zeina integrated the clients' preferences with her modern urban vision, selecting pieces that coincided with the monochromatic colour scheme the clients requested. She picked pieces that emphasized light, airy materials and soft, neutral tones.
The clients had a clear vision of how they wanted each room to function, and Zeina’s design reflected their needs perfectly.
The living room was meant for relaxation—reading a book or enjoying a cup of coffee while gazing out the window.
The dining room needed to accommodate family dinners and gatherings, with comfortable chairs that encouraged lingering long after the meal.
Lastly, the sunroom, with its stunning view of the hot tub, was designed as a cozy space for socializing and playing cards with friends.
After Zeina’s conversation with Tracy and David, she decided to continue with her coastal and airy design strategy to compliment the modern urban look.
The carefully selected furniture and accessories brought the design concept to life, turning Tracy and David’s new build into a warm, welcoming home.
The main furniture piece that Zeina chose for the living room was the Collins Sofa, paired with two accent reclining chairs, a live edge coffee table, and some floor lamps for additional lighting. There was also a cozy area rug to create a comfortable space for reading and unwinding.
In the dining room, Zeina used a dining set from the Canadel Loft Collection, which would become the star of this room. The chairs are designed for extended sitting, making it easy to linger at the table long after a meal.
To maximize the space’s natural light in the sunroom, Zeina chose Leo Ottomans and plush armchairs that face the large windows. This setup allows guests to enjoy the outdoor views while staying cozy inside.
Finally, Because Tracy and David were pleased with Zeina’s work, they also asked her to work on the basement as well. This room had the same airy and modern concept as before and included the Collins again in sectional form, as well as a large ottoman and some Canadel stools.
As you can see from the before and after photos, Zeina transformed what was once a blank canvas into a stylish and serene home. “All it took was a thoughtful blend of textures, modern touches, and a focus on comfort,” she says.
Tracy and David were thrilled with the result, expressing how much they love their new space. “It’s everything we hoped for—a home that’s elegant yet so comfortable,” they shared. Zeina’s attention to detail and commitment to their vision made the design process smooth and enjoyable.
After finishing this project, Zeina hopes that Tracy and David will enjoy their new home for years to come. “It’s a space that’s meant for making memories, and I’m glad I could be a part of that,” she says.
