Before we mention which organizations and causes we have contributed to, it is important to acknowledge our core priorities when it comes to giving back to our Ottawa and Kingston communities.
The core values we choose to prioritize are:
- Health includes support from local hospitals, local clinics/health providers, health issues and national fundraising efforts for research and treatment.
- Youth - this includes all areas of our culture's youth, including but not limited to education, sports, arts, and general welfare.
- Housing - We prioritize public housing, shelters, and other non-profit organizations working to reduce or eliminate homelessness.
As a furniture retailer, our value of helping others live a comfortable life extends to our charitable giving. With our valued partnerships with Bell Media, CHEO the Ottawa Hospital, and others, we can lend a helping hand to so many places in need.
Further, not only do our corporate offices allow the Ottawa and Kingston branches to have a charitable budget, but all of our Ottawa and Kingston stores have an allocated donation budget that they can use however they feel is necessary.

Minto Dream Home Furnished By La-Z-Boy Ottawa
First and foremost, it is important to highlight our most well-known community project that touches the hearts of many throughout the Ottawa community. The Minto Dream Home project is one of the most anticipated charitable initiatives in the Ottawa community and has been an important part of our company since its inception.
Furnishing over 20 dream homes over the last 24 years has allowed La-Z-Boy to give back to a great cause that raises essential funds for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). It helps showcase that La-Z-Boy is not just recliners or living room furniture, but much more.
Main Contribution: La-Z-Boy provides good quality furniture to the Minto Dream Home and contributes to fundraising efforts.

Ronald McDonald House
La-Z-Boy’s involvement with the Ronald McDonald House is another testament to our commitment to supporting families in need. Over the past few years, we have donated furniture to these homes yearly, which helps to create a comfortable and welcoming space for families in need. Our contributions ensure that these families have a home away from home during challenging times.

Move 100.3's Community Hero Award
Through La-Z-Boy’s partnership with Bell Media, we have collaborated many times with the radio station Move 100.3 for contest prizes. Most recently, we sponsored a contest called the Community Hero Award, which awards the winner with a $5,000 store credit to La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston.
This year, the award was given to Brenda Reisch, a woman who works tirelessly with autistic children, showcasing the importance of recognizing and celebrating those who directly help their community.

Partnership with Bell Media
Last but not least, we have to acknowledge our partnership with Bell Media, which plays a crucial role in promoting our community initiatives. Through media collaborations, we amplify our efforts and reach a broader audience, encouraging more community support and engagement.
Because of our long partnership with them, some of our La-Z-Boy interior designers came together to create a room for guests to sit in while waiting to go live on air with CTV News. This La-Z-Boy Lounge was never meant to happen, but CTV was looking to revamp it and our interior designers felt inspired.
Bell Media’s platforms help us share the stories of our partnerships and the positive impacts we make in the community.

Other Notable Charitable Events
While we’d love to list all of our charitable instances in one article our list would be too long. However, we cannot end without mentioning some other notable events that we have taken part in and continue to make an impact with our outreach.
Hospice Care: Hospice Care Canada builds and renovates facilities throughout Ottawa and Kingston. La-Z-Boy provides a 40% contribution of the value of the furniture needed and continues to sponsor their Homes for the Holiday charity event every holiday season.
Kiwanis: Another yearly contribution, La-Z-Boy offers committee involvement, volunteer efforts, and participation in their Annual Bed Race. This year, the Accora Village Kiwanis Bed Race raised over $25,000 for children’s youth and the Queensway Carleton Hospital.
Queensway Carleton Hospital: our collaboration with the foundation supported a few fundraising initiatives for their Acute Care of the Elderly Unit.
Lung Cancer Canada: Lung Cancer Canada is a national charity that serves as Canada’s leading resource for lung cancer education and research. This year, La-Z-Boy made a $1,000 donation to the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) to support lung cancer research.
Monfort Hospital: Similarly to CHEO, we have also donated furniture to Monfort in the past. We have also donated a chair every year by silent auction to the annual gold tournament they host.
