Purchasing used furniture can sometimes be a better choice for some individuals, as opposed to purchasing new. While newer furniture products can last longer and be returned to the original store, used furniture also has advantages worth considering.
Used items are less expensive than new items and even contribute to producing less furniture waste as a whole.
At La-Z-Boy, we recognize the growing importance of sustainability, which is why we occasionally offer pre-owned La-Z-Boy products when customers seek an alternative to their furniture choice.
But, what about other used furniture stores out there? Some stores may get shadowed by larger companies, which is why we are here to shine a light on them today!
This article will showcase five different consignment stores you can shop at in Ottawa, to help you find affordable used furniture that’s in good condition. These stores are listed in alphabetical order.
In This Article…
- Millwards Consignment
- Preloved 2 Beloved Furniture
- Total Home Consignment
- Value Village
- Verve Moderns
1. Millwards Consignment Furniture & Decor
Our first used furniture store on our list is Millwards Consignment, which is a small consignment store located in Stittsville.
Millwards believes that creating beautiful homes doesn’t always have to be with new furniture pieces, but also with vintage pieces. Bringing an eclectic mix of traditional, retro, industrial and shabby chic to their showrooms, this store sells consigned furniture at an affordable price.
Within their selection, Millward holds many used furniture items, such as bed sets, dining room tables, chairs and benches, artwork, home decor, living room media units and much more.
Consigning your furniture is also as easy as sending a photo to their email and waiting for approval.
Location: 1300 Stittsville Main St.
2. Preloved 2 Beloved Furniture
Next up is another local used furniture store by the name of Preloved 2 Beloved. This interesting store located in Vanier resells quality vintage furniture, for half the price it originally was.
The way they do this is by recycling old furniture and turning it into something that appears brand new, thanks to restoration tactics like repainting, refinishing and adding new stylistic details.
Preloved 2 Beloved’s co-founders, Jen and Jonathan, are aware of the millions of furniture waste ending up in landfills. Because of their furniture recycling project, though, they were able to save 300 furniture pieces from ending up getting thrown away just last year!
Some of the furniture items that Preloved 2 Beloved has helped redesign are pieces like cabinets, dressers, dining tables and other wooden furniture frames.
Location: 370 Montfort St.
3. Total Home Consignment
Possibly one of the better known consignment stores in Ottawa, Total Home Consignment is also one of the largest consignment stores in all of Ontario. This is due to their 9,000-square-foot showroom located close to Alta Vista.
That’s a lot of space for one store! But how are they able to get so much inventory if other consignment stores exist?
Well, Total Consignment works with other local businesses in the area that are closing, going through bankruptcy or having inventory liquidations. They then place the furniture that doesn’t have a place to go in their showrooms for affordable prices.
This is how they get away with carrying an “eclectic mix of new and gently used home furnishings.”
On top of their used furniture, they also have new furniture available. This could be a good store to take a look at if you’re undecided between shopping for old vs. new furniture!
Location: 1860 Bank St, Unit #4
4. Value Village
Perhaps you may not know about Value Village. You know, the only thrift store that everyone knows in Ottawa, thanks to its multiple locations?
While being the only thrift store on this list, Value Village is also considered a furniture consignment store, since it accepts used furniture, among other things.
They also pride themselves on reusing, repurposing and upcycling anything that comes through their doors, and that includes their furniture pieces.
While their furniture selection may not be as vast as their clothing or reading sections, Value Village still has a large assortment of tables, chairs, cabinets, office desks, sofas, dressers, mirrors, lamps, recliners, you name it!
It all depends on what they currently have in stock, however, so make sure to call in advance in case you’re looking for something specific.
Locations:
- 1651 Merivale Rd.
- 1824 Bank St.
- 4345 Strandherd Dr.
- 1221 Cyrville Rd.
- 5487 Hazeldean Rd, Unit 1
- 4220 Innes Rd, Unit 3
5. Verve Moderns
Last but not least, Verve Moderns, a smaller consignment store nestled in Centretown, making it possibly the most niche spot on our list. Its inclusion here is solely thanks to the numerous glowing reviews it has received.
One reviewer notes the wide variety of “beautiful and funky treasures” while another notes how “knowledgeable and friendly” the owners are.
While Verve Moderns may not have the biggest selection as some of the other consignment stores on this list, this used furniture store may be a great place to shop for your next mid-century modern, European or traditional furniture piece.
Location: 10 Blackburn Ave.
