Every year, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), partners up with Minto Communities to bring to life a Dream Home, which serves as the grand prize for the annual lottery.

Designed by locally acclaimed interior designer, Tanya Collins, and furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa, this gorgeous house turns to life with stylish furniture that is dream-worthy.

With the purchase of a Dream of a Lifetime lottery ticket, the lucky winner will receive $3.2 million dollars worth of prizes, including the CHEO Dream Home. Proceeds raised during this event will go towards helping high-priority needs in the children’s hospital.

Even though only one lucky individual will win the grand prize, there are many products featured inside the home that can be purchased at any of our La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston Showrooms.

With that being said, you can create your own dream home with these products, as well! This article will highlight each room in the CHEO Dream Home, as well as each product provided by La-Z-Boy Ottawa.

This Year's Dream Home: The Equestrian

Before we dive into this year’s home in detail, let’s learn a little bit about the house itself and the inspiration that led to this beautiful home.

Firstly, This Year’s Dream Home is called The Equestrian.

Going back to tradition from past homes, this house is located in Manotick at 364 Flare Grove. With a 4,200 square-foot floor plan, The Equestrian is currently situated by itself in front of a semi-private cul-de-sac lot, backing onto a protected green space.

Based on British-style design, with a nod to refined horse-riding culture, the home features 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.

The dream home also features an exterior 3-season patio with nearly 150 square feet of land to work with, as well as a media and bar lounge in the basement, a sunset deck off the primary bedroom, and a spacious den on the first floor.

About Interior Designer Tanya Collins

For her 6th and final year, Tanya Collins is once again the designer of this year’s Dream Home. Tanya is an established interior designer who has experience in decorating homes for 20 years. You can learn more about her by checking out her business website, Tanya Collins Design.

When it comes to the interior design of the Dream Home, Tanya notes that the home's interior exudes an homage to classic elements inspired by British and aristocratic styles.

“This year’s house was a little bit moodier compared to last year’s refined and airy Parisian Home,” she says. “It is still refined, but a little bit more noble and aristocratic.”

As you walk through the home, you will notice the rich and warm colour palette, especially the buttery caramel leathers, dark greens, strong gold accents, and large windows to help balance out the atmosphere of the home.

Furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston

Bringing to life Tanya’s design is La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. Since the very first CHEO Dream Home, La-Z-Boy has helped furnish the home and is honoured to do so each year.

Being a local family-owned branch, La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston is always proud to give back to the Eastern Ontario community through this event.

Cecile Panet-Raymond, La-Z-Boy’s merchandising director, has been helping to furnish the CHEO Dream Home for almost 15 years. For the 6th year in a row, she and Tanya partnered up to choose the products you can see within the house.

To ensure the design of the furniture matched the overall aesthetic of the home, Cecile and Tanya extensively customized La-Z-Boy’s furniture selections. A good example of this is the King sized bed frame, which was custom-made in leather, which was never done before.

Even though this may have caused delays in delivery, Cecile emphasizes that it was worth the wait, since it matches the home’s British-European theme.

The far left side of the upper floor leads into the anticipated primary suite. This is a very rich and layered bedroom. As you can tell there is a lot of detail in this room, especially when taking a look at the king-sized bed and the head-to-toe vanity mirror. There is also a dark navy blue colour around the walls which makes the room feel moody and luxurious.

The bedroom also features a walk-in closet, which is well thought out, in Tanya’s opinion. The custom LED lights perfectly light the space so no corner is left dark, which helps if you’re trying to apply makeup at the custom vanity.

There is also a beverage centre tucked away, in case you want to pour a drink for yourself and or guests while enjoying the spectacular view of the sunset deck adjacent to the master bedroom.

And with a primary bedroom comes a primary bathroom. This show stopping on-suite is inspired by European hotels, which is shown by the double wood vanity counter on the left side. There is also the bathtub in the centre of the room, which helps anchor the space, as well as a private toilet and a shower separated by glass.
