A Catalogue of the Furniture in the 2024 Minto Dream Home

Every year, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), partners up with Minto Communities to bring to life a Dream Home, which serves as the grand prize for the annual lottery.

Designed by local interior designer Tanner Vine and furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa, this house comes to life with stylish, dream-worthy furniture.

By purchasing a Dream of a Lifetime lottery ticket, you'll have the chance to win $3.3 million in prizes, including the Minto Dream Home. Proceeds will support high-priority needs at the children’s hospital.

Even though only one lucky individual will win the grand prize, many products are featured inside the home that can be purchased at any of our La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston Showrooms.

That said, you can create your own dream home with these products, too! This article will highlight each room in the Minto Dream Home and each product provided by La-Z-Boy Ottawa.

This Year's Dream Home: The Oasis

Before we dive into this year’s home in detail, let’s learn a little bit about the house itself and the inspiration that led to this beautiful home.

Firstly, This Year’s Dream Home is called The Oasis.

Situated right next to the previous dream home, this house is located in Mahogany, Manotick at 845 Companion Crescent. With a 5,097 square-foot floor plan, The Oasis is currently situated by itself in front of a semi-private cul-de-sac lot, backing onto a protected green space. 

Based on Belgian-style design, with many aspects covering wellness and relaxation, the home features 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. 

The dream home also features natural elements in every corner with a yoga studio on the 3rd floor loft, a golf simulator in the basement, a sunset deck off the primary bedroom, and a spacious den on the first floor. 

About Interior Designer Tanner Vine

Tanner Vine is the designer for this year’s Dream Home. With over 20 years of experience, he brings a wealth of expertise to the project.

When it comes to the interior design of the Dream Home, Tanner notes that the home's interior takes huge inspiration from a minimalistic lifestyle, with an emphasis on health, wellness and relaxation. 

“I decided to do a modern interpretation of a Belgian farmhouse design, blending traditional architecture with simple and natural colours,” he says.

As you walk through the home, you will notice the natural light colour palette, especially the wooden accents, large windows and green accents from real plants to help balance out the atmosphere of the home.

Furnished by La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston

Bringing to life Tanner’s design is La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries. Since the very first Minto Dream Home, La-Z-Boy has helped furnish the home and is honoured to do so each year.

Being a local family-owned branch, La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston is always proud to give back to the Eastern Ontario community through this event.

Cecile Panet-Raymond, La-Z-Boy’s merchandising director, has been helping to furnish the Minto Dream Home for almost 15 years. For the first time, she and Tanner partnered up to choose the products you can see within the house.

To ensure the design of the furniture matched the overall aesthetic of the home, Cecile and Tanner extensively customized La-Z-Boy’s furniture selections.

Front Entrance & Study

The bright gracious foyer is the first room people will see when they enter the Minto Dream Home, in its grandeur you can see a majority of the first level, as well as the study on the left side. The front entrance features tall French-style doors, a sturdy white oak wooden bench hand-picked by Tanner Vine Interiors, an abstract art print, and scones to balance the Belgium-style home.

In the study, you will notice a sit-down area for those interested in doing work, listening to some music on the record player, or just relaxing on the plush chaise seat.

Pierre Chaise

Arguably the attention-grabber in this room. A spectacular chaise lounge chair featuring a beige-toned, fabric-wrapped seat perched atop a wooden base, the Pierre makes for an uber-comfortable and visually enticing addition to contemporary spaces.

Canadel Accent Chairs

These reimagined dining chairs from Canadel are turned into guest chairs in this room, giving more seating in the overall home, and enhancing the colour palette with its timber-brown leather and dark walnut wood finish.

This all-black dining chair is also from Canadel, and reimagines the dining seating as a workspace chair. With its long back and simple design, this chair is perfect for either long or short work hours.

This accent table makes a dramatic statement with its sleek, all-black design, matching the black chair mentioned earlier. The slim steel rod is accented by a black man-made stone top and foot with a noticeably porous texture.

Sitting on the custom made desk is one light accent table lamp, made with a slim gold brass pole.

Living Room

Centred around the custom-made fireplace, the living area features plush couches from La-Z-Boy, a large custom-made coffee table to help fill up the large room in the space, and large windows that help bring natural light in–a recurring theme that stays true in almost every room you enter.

Sitting above the fireplace is an art piece specifically designed for this home by a local artist named Judy Nakagawa. The wall art piece represents CHEO and spreads its message continuously to hopefully touch the hearts of everyone in the community. 

Emric Sofas

Giving everyone comfort in this room is two Emric Sofas, which are the other main attraction in this room. Tanner notes the continuous seat cushions being a unique feature he was drawn to, as well as the obvious comfort of the seat. The Emric also emphasizes the minimalist theme in this home.

Mattius End Tables

Sitting beside each Emric are Mattius Accent Tables, a mod solid wood table with three geometric legs. The light brown finish shows off the natural grain of the solid wood table, and emphasizes the natural theme of the home.

Large Pod End Table

By the large windows sits the Large Pod End Table, creating an asymmetric table arrangement with the Mattias tables in the room. This larger end table offers the same wood colour as the smaller end tables, complimenting their styles well.

Anchoring the living room is the Abby area rug, a nice light-coloured rug that features natural tones and a low pile.

Dining Room & Kitchen

With kitchens and bathrooms being Tanner’s initial specialization, he believes this is his favourite room in the home. Showcasing a bright airy and dramatic layout, the kitchen and dining area is separated by an extra-long island, made out of a custom travertine-esque countertop done on hickory wood cabinetry. There is also integrated kitchen appliance within the millwork, as well as a hidden pantry to enhance the minimalist space.

The main dining space features four dining chairs and a 15 ft banquet that is constructed within the nook of the windows. This compliments the large dining table well and helps seat multiple people at once.

Canadel Dining Table

This harvest-style table from Canadel’s Loft Collection features a rustic look with distressed features all across the dining surface. The black colour also bounces off the white background very well.

Accenting the black and white aesthetic of the room is the open-back dining chairs from the Downtown Collection, creating a modern theme to the overall room.

Complimenting the extra-long kitchen counter are three Aida counter stools. the rectangular shape and the light gray tone is best complimented with the wooden island and cabinetry.

At the end of the dining and kitchen area sits two Kimberly High-Leg Recliners from La-Z-Boy. These chairs are situated here for those looking for a conversational area in the morning while drinking coffee and catching up on the latest news.

Second Floor

Going up the custom staircase with embedded glass details keeps the natural theme into the second floor. Although the space may look a little bit tight, the bedrooms make up for this lost space immensely. On this floor sits two child bedrooms on the right side, a laundry room on the opposite side of the stairs, and a primary ensuite with a bed, a sitting area and a large bathroom.

As mentioned above, this primary ensuite features many different places for activities, including a resting area for nighttime, a sitting area for relaxing and watching TV, a desk for possibly doing work if you don't want to go downstairs, and an outside balcony for those nice and sunny days.

The primary bathroom area features a mirror stretching all across the bathroom wall, a water closet for privacy, and tub and shower space that is open-concept with a partition wall to still let in natural light in the area.

Petra Sofa

The first furniture piece people may notice upon entering the primary suite is the Petra Sofa, which sits across from the two-sided fireplace and wall-mounted TV. This extra-long sofa is very similar to the Emric on the main floor, but with a little touch of elegance in its shape.

Normally used as an entryway bench, the Konstantin bench is reimagined as a decorative piece to place cute knick-knacks for those wanting to display interesting items they are proud of.

This Canadel dining table is reused as a desk for those who may be a little bit tired and don’t want to use the downstairs desk for work. Instead, they can spend their entire day on the second floor, while only needing to get food and drinks downstairs.

In the master bedroom lays a Gold Firm King Size bed from LaPensee. Emphasizing the minimalist style with the bright colour palette, this king-size bed may not look like much, but it is a very comfortable place to rest after a long day.

Returning from the downstairs living area are another two Mattius end tables, reused as night stands instead. These tables keep the simplistic design as well as the natural colour flowing throughout the room.

Bedroom 2

Styled as a little children's bedroom, this fun bedroom features a platform for the bedroom that sits below the window for a cozy area to rest. Kids can also take advantage of the draperies above the wooden beam to help create some privacy when sleeping. The space also features a fluffy accent chair and an adjustable task light for kids to read next to.

Much smaller than the king-size variation, the LaPensee twin bed is the right size for any growing child who needs a place to sleep.

Bedroom 3

Across from the jack & jill bathroom situated the third bedroom, which is designed for an older child to sleep in. this area features a larger bed than the last bedroom, as well as some more storage area for linens, clothes and other items that want to be displayed.

3rd Floor Loft

At the top of the dream home is a multifunctional room that can be used as either a yoga studio or a guest bedroom for any overnight sleepers who need a place to crash. The bedroom is hidden by a Murphy bed in the wall which can be pulled out when desired. There is also a private bathroom on this floor with its own shower, as well as another balcony that overlooks the entire backyard property.

The last Gold Firm Mattress from LaPensee is hidden behind the murphy bed wall, which helps emphasize the while colour created from the shiplap accents in the loft.

Basement

Stacked with many activities, the basement is the powerhouse of the entire home. Creating social memories for years to come, you can practice your swinging technique with the Golf simulator, watch a movie with surround sound using the media corner, play some darts or have some drinks at the bar
