Once a year in Ottawa, a utopian home transpires into reality in the form of what we know each year as the CHEO Dream Home.
The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) partners with Minto Communities to build a magnificent home that serves as the grand prize of the annual lottery.
The home itself never falls short of extraordinary. Designed by the talented interior designer, Tanya Collins, and furnished by La-Z-Boy, the large and spacious house transforms into a warm and inviting home … not to mention stylish!
With the purchase of a lottery ticket, a lucky winner has the opportunity to receive the keys to this brand new home, along with multiple other prizes.
Although there can only be one winner, much of the magic created by interior designer, Tanya Collins, can be re-created within your very own home.
Every piece of furniture, as well as the accents and decor, is provided by La-Z-Boy, a local furniture retailer. These stylish and comfortable furniture items that you will find throughout the home are also available in-store.
This article highlights the main pieces of La-Z-Boy furniture within the 2020 Dream Home, cataloged by room. By reading this article, you can learn more about the details of each piece of furniture including the style, the size, customization options, and the cost.
Before we dive into exploring the furniture that fills the home, let’s talk a little bit about the inspiration behind the design of this year’s furniture choices.
The 2020 Dream Home is called the Bohemian.
Located in Manotick, this year’s home resembles the charm and ambiance of its natural surroundings.
At 4,700 square feet, the beautiful home sits on a corner lot overlooking a newly landscaped pond. The Bohemian was built to be the perfect single-family home with 4 spacious bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
In 2020, people are appreciating the comforts of home more than ever before. This sentiment was a driving force behind Tanya’s home design which reflects the resurgence of earthy palettes within the modern home.
Tanya’s design is described as Bohemian Chic as it portrays natural elements while incorporating an assortment of global influences. With the layering of multiple patterns and textures, this style abandons minimalism and instead takes on an eclectic feel allowing personality to enter the space.
This Boho aesthetic comes to life through the use of La-Z-Boy furniture and accents. Throughout the home, you will find wood tones, quirky accessories, and pops of colourful furniture.
Tanya Collins is the talented designer of this year’s Dream Home.
With experience decorating homes for over 18 years, Tanya is an established interior designer in Ottawa with her own business called Tanya Collins Design.

For over 20 years, La-Z-Boy is honored to furnish the CHEO Dream Home annually.
As a local, family-run business, furnishing the Dream Home is a great opportunity for La-Z-Boy to give back to the Ottawa community.
Cecile Panet-Raymond is the Merchandising Director at the local Ottawa and Kingston La-Z-Boy locations. Cecile has been the La-Z-Boy representative on this project for over 10 years.
Each year, Cecile facilitates and assists the home’s interior designer in translating their creative vision into reality by using all La-Z-Boy products for the furnishings and accessories.
This year, Cecile worked side-by-side Tanya Collins to gain an in-depth understanding of her Bohemian Chic vision, and in turn, found the perfect La-Z-Boy products to align with the chosen style of the home.
Given that La-Z-Boy is a brand built for comfort, it isn’t always an easy task achieving the designers, oftentimes trendy and modern, vision.
To combat this, Cecile and the designer played around with many customizations to fabrics and textures. Further, the accents and decor play a significant role in transforming the overall look of the furniture and portraying this year’s bohemian theme.
