Unique Product Features
As previously mentioned, the Paxton and Alani sectionals share many similarities in style and product features.
First, both the Paxton and Alani sectional are stationary pieces of furniture. Stationary upholstery furniture offers exceptional comfort, excluding the ability to recline.
Both sectionals feature wide arms and deep seats that practically beg you to sink in and get cozy. As sectionals, this comfort is designed to be enjoyed alone or with company as there is plenty of room to go around.
Each sectional has a variety of modules that allows you to customize the ideal configuration for your space.
Key Similarities
To the naked eye, the Paxton & Alani share many similarities in style.
In the comfortably casual style, they both feature plush cushions, clean lines, welt trim, and decorative wood legs. Further, both sectionals come with a minimum of four 20 inch accent pillows for added comfort and style.
Not to mention, the Paxton and Alani sectionals are both customizable with a variety of fabric to choose from.
It is important to note that neither the Paxton or Alani are offered in leather upholstery. Due to the large seat size and backs, the leather would need to be cut into sewn strips, making it challenging to meet La-Z-Boy’s upholstery standards.
When it comes to comfort and quality, the Paxton and Alani do not disappoint. They both feature La-Z-Boy® Premier construction with quality-crafted frames consisting of kiln-dried hardwood and furniture-grade laminates. They are engineered for lasting durability.
Moreover, the Paxton and Alani sectionals include ComfortCore seat cushions with seven layers of zoned cushion technology for added comfort and firmness. The cushions also feature self-healing zippers, a non-skid tailor-made decking, and double-blown fibre fill.
Key Differences
The most significant difference between the look of the Paxton and Alani sectional is the shape of their arms. The Paxton sectional features a square arm while the Alani features a rolled arm.
This difference in arm makes the Paxton appear slightly more contemporary and modern and the Alani more traditional and country.
Further, the sectionals differ slightly in the look of their decorative wood legs. The wood legs on the Alani are more low-profile and less obvious than the legs on the Paxton.
Finally, the sectionals have something different to offer in terms of dimensions. The Paxton is more generously scaled with a deeper seat, while the dimensions of the Alani are of standard scale.
Much of these similarities and differences will be described in more detail in the sections below.
To learn more about each sectional in-depth, check out the Paxton Sectional Review and the Alani Sectional Review.
How it's Made

Furniture Family (Other Available Frames)
At La-Z-Boy, many furniture models are available in multiple frame options, such as a sofa, chair, and sectional. This offers the option to create a living room furniture arrangement with a cohesive look.
It is important to note that the Paxton model is available in multiple other frame options, while the Alani is only available as a sectional.
The Paxton comes as a sectional, 2-seater sofa, loveseat, chair & a half, and ottoman.
In fact, the Paxton Chair & a Half is one of the Five Best-Selling Chair & a Halfs at La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston.
With this, be sure to consider that with purchasing the Paxton sectional, you have the opportunity to furnish the rest of the room with coordinated Paxton pieces. Alternatively, when purchasing the Alani sectional, you must find furniture of a different model that doesn’t clash with the Alani in a furniture arrangement.
Sizes & Dimensions
There is no doubt that the Paxton and Alani sectionals are stylish and comfortable, but it is important to ensure that the product you choose is the right size and fit.
First and foremost, it is crucial to measure your space. This will dictate the size, shape, and configuration of your chosen sectional. Keep these measurements in mind as you analyze the dimensions of the Paxton and Alani sectionals.
Further, it is important that the dimensions of the sectional seat cushions support your unique body type, providing the utmost comfort.
Generally speaking, the size of the Paxton is generously scaled. In a seated position, the seat dimensions are ideal for people 6’3”and taller. With this being said, the depth of the seat is comfortable for individuals of all heights to curl up on.
In contrast, the size of the Alani is of standard scale. In a seated position, the seat dimensions are ideal for individuals with a height of 5’10” to 6’2”.
For a more detailed comparison, take a look at the below seat dimensions for the right or left arm sitting chair module of the Paxton and Alani sectional) ...

The Paxton’s select fabrics have a linen texture which lends to a more formal look. Further, the Paxton fabrics have a larger weave which is not ideal for pets.
Alternatively, the Alani select fabrics have a more cozy texture appearing more casual. These fabrics have a tight weave which is more pet friendly. Further, the Alani select fabrics are made with the innovative iClean technology.
In addition to the choice of select covers, there are hundreds of fabrics to choose from. With this, there is something unique for every budget and style. The Paxton and Alani are also available in premium-grade specialty fabrics.

Paxton Sectional Reviews
Paxton Sectional Testimonial from Interior Designer Tanya Collins
Tanya Collins is a talented interior designer with over 19 years of experience designing homes. In fact, Tanya is the interior designer of the annual CHEO Dream Home in Ottawa.
Tanya herself has a preference for the Paxton sectional as she incorporated this sectional multiple times in the 2020 Bohemian Dream Home and the 2021 Caraway Dream Home.
Tanya likes incorporating the Paxton into her designs due to its proportions. She specifically likes the seat height relative to the sofa back height and the width of the arm. “It is a versatile choice that suits a range of styles and is true to the La-Z-Boy brand in being comfortable”.
Alani Sectional Reviews
Alani Testimonial from Tyler & Nikki
"The Alani was the perfect addition to our living room and lives! I'm a pretty tall guy and it still has plenty of space for my partner and I to both lay on comfortably. When we're watching a show together the snuggler lets us cuddle up on the same end without sacrificing comfort. The thick back cushions also have also become a favourite nap spot for our little pup!"
Paxton vs. Alani: Which is right for you?
Zeina Badawi, an interior designer at La-Z-Boy Kanata, is very familiar with the Paxton and Alani sectionals. While these sectionals are very similar, she says the main difference between them is their style and comfort.
Zeina says that the square arms on the Paxton are ideal for a client who is looking for a modern or contemporary style sectional. Further, the select linen fabric caters to someone who is trying to achieve a formal look.
Given that the Paxton is generously scaled, this sectional requires a large, open space, says Zeina. The larger the selected configuration, the more space you’ll need. Moreover, although anyone can find comfort snuggling up onto the Paxton, its deep seat cushions offer the most comfort to a taller individual in a seated position.
In contrast, Zeina says the rolled arms of the Alani are great for a client that wants to achieve a more traditional or country look. As previously mentioned, the select fabrics for the Alani are more casual looking and cozy in texture.
Further, Paxton's select fabrics are pet-friendly and have the iClean technology, says Zeina. In comparison to the Alani, at a starting price, the Paxton is a better choice for someone with pets or young children.
Putting these differences aside, both sectionals are ideal for a client who is looking for a comfortable and quality sectional to share with family and friends.
Keep in mind that a sectional is a significant investment, especially the Paxton and Alani sectional, falling within the mid-price range of sectional at La-Z-Boy. These sectionals are ideal for a client who is ready to splurge on a large, quality piece of furniture that they can enjoy for years to come!
