Brief Descriptions of Each Retailer

Before we get to the detailed comparison, let’s familiarize ourselves with both retailers.

Canadel

Canadel Custom DiningCanadel is a Canadian furniture company that has been in business for over 30 years, specializing in making high-quality custom dining room furniture.

Much like La-Z-Boy, Canadel prides itself on selling high-quality furniture that is long-lasting

In addition, Canadel offers extensive customization options, made easier with the Canadel UDesign tool. This platform provides the online customer with over 9 million furniture combinations and options to choose from.

A fun fact about Canadel furniture is that it is part of our dining selection at La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston, with a flagship Canadel showroom attached to the La-Z-Boy Kanata showroom.

Structube

Structube is also a Canadian-established furniture company, first opening its doors in Montreal, Quebec in 1974.

For almost 50 years, Structube has continued to grow into a leading seller of furniture across Canada, with most of its stores located in Ottawa and Quebec.

Along with their dining room furniture, they also sell furniture for each room in your home, as well as decor, rugs, and lighting.

Dining Room Furniture Selection

Both Canadel and Structube carry a wide range of home furniture to choose from.

While Canadel focuses solely on dining room furniture, Structube sells furniture and other household items. For the purposes of this comparison article, we will focus only on Structube’s dining room furniture selection.

Canadel Dining Room Furniture Selection

Offered at Canadel are six main collections of dining room furniture: Canadel, East Side, Gourmet, Downtown, Champlain, and Loft. Each collection offers a unique twist on traditional dining room sets, taking on stylish and eye-catching appearances.

New call-to-action

Among these six collections, you will find a wide range of dining room tables, chairs, stools, benches, buffets, and kitchen islands

All dining furniture offered at Canadel is customizable, which will be discussed further within the Customization section of this article.

Structube Dining Room Furniture Selection

Unlike Canadel, Structube does not organize its dining room products by collections. Instead, they focus more on showcasing affordability. This is clearly shown in their Small Budget collection, which has “big designs” that are stylish yet affordable.

With that being said, big designs are also shown in some of their dining room options. While not having as ornate options as Canadel does, they still showcase some unique styles.

Along with Structube's dining selection, you will find dining room tables, chairs, benches, sideboards & buffets, barstools, and kitchen islands.

Some dining furniture items feature faux-leather covers and upholstery with quilted patterns. With this, Structube is able to offer stylish design while remaining within an affordable price point. This is not often seen among furniture retailers.

Where it is Made

Where furniture is made tells you a lot about a company. Let’s take a look at where Canadel and Structube make their furniture items.

Where is Canadel Furniture Made?

Canadel’s products are all built-to-order at its 6 production plants located in Louiseville, Quebec, Canada. Each production plant, excluding the fifth plant, specializes in finished goods made under the Canadel brand.

In addition to the 6 production plants, Canadel also has two wood transformation plants in St. George de Beauce, Quebec.

Where is Structube Furniture Made?

While Structube is a Canadian-founded brand, it does not manufacture its furniture in Canada. Instead, it sources its furniture across the world with its largest factory located in China.

This is not uncommon as many other furniture companies have products manufactured in China.

Customization Options

Custom dining room furniture has become a popular demand for homeowners as of late. When it comes to customization options, there is a lot to discuss between both Canadel and Structube.

Canadel Customization Options

As previously mentioned, Canadel has a vast choice of customization options.

Customers have over 9 million customization options to choose from, including the size, shape, and height of a furniture piece, adding extensions to dining tables, choosing the back and arms for a chair, and much more!

The UDesign tool is an application created by Canadel that allows the user to make these customizations to the furniture online without having to go in-store.

There is also a Signature Program which gives customers the opportunity to incorporate more specific customization through an online request form.

Through the Signature Program, you can also mix and match customization options from different furniture collections into one dining set, which is something the UDesign tool cannot do.

If the request is too specific of a demand, however, the request can be denied. Canadel manufacturers may not be able to complete orders if the request is not within their capabilities.

Canadel’s collections all vary in terms of different customization options, which you can learn way more about in our article Everything You Need to Know About Canadel Custom Dining Options.

Structube Customization Options

Aside from choosing different colour options for certain items, Structube does not offer any customization options for its dining room furniture

With this, customizations are very minimal in comparison to the customization options you can find at Canadel.

Interior Design Services

Whether Canadel or Structube’s dining room furniture is customizable or not, interior design services are helpful to ensure the style of dining room furniture matches seamlessly into the design of your home.

Canadel Interior Design Services

Canadel does not offer any interior design services independently from La-Z-Boy locations.

With that being said, given that La-Z-Boy does sell dining room furniture from Canadel, La-Z-Boy interior designers have general knowledge of Canadel furniture.

In turn, they can provide complimentary interior design services to customers who are looking for custom dining room furniture from Canadel.

For more information, check out Interior Design at La-Z-Boy Ottawa & Kingston: What to Expect.

Structube Interior Design Services

Along with Canadel, Structube also does not offer an official interior design service.

Structube does, however, have a Designer Program put in place for customers to use, but these services are currently suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cost

Canadel and Structube vary significantly in terms of cost.

Canadel specializes in custom dining room furniture while Structube takes a more generalized approach. This factor, along with the quality of materials and craftsmanship, impacts the overall cost of their products.

Here is where each retailer stands in their cost.

Canadel Cost

Generally speaking, dining furniture at Canadel falls within the mid to high price range on the market.

The cost of Canadel furniture can be attributed to a couple of factors: the quality of materials, level of craftsmanship, and customizability.

Canadel does not list its prices online. Instead, all prices are given to the customer after the customizations are finished.

The cost is dependent on the complexity of labour and the materials used for each specific order. Once the retailer knows what materials are used in the furniture pieces, then Canadel will provide a price quote.

Structube Cost

As opposed to the high-quality dining room furniture seen at Canadel, there is a price difference when compared to Structube’s dining room furniture.

It comes as no surprise that Structube has its furniture prices in the low-mid price range. After all, it is what they are known for. This means that Structube is significantly less expensive than Canadel custom dining.

While stylish and affordable, the level of materials and craftsmanship is lower in Structube dining furniture, resulting in a lower price tag.

Cost Breakdown: Canadel vs. Structube

Below is a cost breakdown of both Canadel and Structube dining room furniture.

Keep in mind that prices for dining room tables, seats, and storage units at Structube are varied by collection but usually fall under the same umbrella.

Warranty

Whether you shop at Canadel or Structube, there is no doubt that dining room furniture is an investment. Both furniture retailers offer warranties with the sale of their products in order to help protect your investment.

Canadel Warranty

All Collections at Canadel are covered by Canadel’s 1-year warranty, which covers the repair or replacement of chair frames, tabletops, fabric tearings, or any unforeseen circumstances.

Given that each piece of furniture is quality-crafted and built to last, Canadel also offers an extended 5-year warranty plan at an additional cost.

This not only goes to further protect your purchase, but it is also transferable when you purchase new Canadel furniture if you are looking to replace old additions.

Structube Warranty

According to Structube’s website, all of Structube’s products have a 1-year warranty, unless otherwise specified. This warranty is valid from the date of delivery.

Structube’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, but does not cover any normal wear and tear–this can vary to cuts, scratches, damages caused by accidents, fabric pilling, etc.

Structube’s warranty also does not cover any products that have been put together incorrectly, or any products used inappropriately, abused, or cleaned incorrectly. Any products placed outside and ruined by weather conditions are also not covered by the warranty.

Delivery

Canadel and Structube both have different delivery services available for an additional cost. To learn more about these delivery fees, it is best to contact each retailer directly.

Canadel Delivery

What's interesting about Canadel is that it actually has a faster delivery time than any other custom dining room retailer.

Usually, custom furniture takes about 6-10 weeks to get delivered to someone's home. However, Canadel has a 4-6 week delivery time, on average.

This delivery time does not include furniture made with the Signature program, however, which adds an additional 6-10 weeks to the delivery time.

When it comes to delivery fees, Canadel is the same as La-Z-Boy

There is a $129 local delivery fee and $169 for any out-of-town locations. This white glove delivery service includes set up, assembly, re-arranging furniture, and the disposal of old furniture at an additional cost.

For an additional fee of $25 per furniture piece, we can assist with either moving out old furniture from different rooms or bringing it to the curb.  We offer the option to dispose of any old furniture in a local landfill at an extra charge of $50 / per furniture seat

To learn more about delivery at La-Z-Boy, check out our delivery service page: La-Z-Boy Ottawa and Kingston Furniture Delivery Service.

Structube Delivery

COVID-19 has changed the way Structube has delivered its items. Because of the pandemic, Structube now has contactless delivery for all of its doorstep delivery services, to help ensure the safety of all customers.

Aside from delivery alterations, Structube offers free delivery services for orders over $299. This is available to all locations with a store located within the postal code.

If a postal code is different from a select store location, it is considered an out-of-town delivery location, which is subjected to additional delivery fees.

Along with the aforementioned doorstep delivery, Structube customers can also choose to pick up their furniture at a distribution centre or in-store. Customers will receive an email to confirm their delivery has arrived, as well as an SMS message, to ensure customers are notified properly.

Where to Buy (Ottawa & Kingston)
