We all know Dora, right? No, not the explorer from that children’s show. We’re talking about Dora, one of the newest La-Z-Boy chairs on our floors!
Although Dora hasn’t been around as long as other furniture pieces at La-Z-Boy, customers are exploring this chair's different variations.
In fact, the assistant manager at La-Z-Boy Cyrville, Marianne Kola, says, “the Dora is one of the more versatile chairs we have at the moment.”
But what do these different versatile options mean, and how does it compare to what we can find at La-Z-Boy? This article will detail everything you need to know about the Dora and if this chair is right for you.
In This Article…
Known as one of La-Z-Boy’s comfortable and casual-styled chairs, the Dora has an updated, slim silhouette that makes it versatile in furniture frames and style.
Marianne also says that this chair “is the closest to mid-century modern we have ever had on the floor.”
The Dora also features an inviting box seat, decorative welt detailing, and a solid foam back. Chic, tapered wedge arms surround the seat, which means they are thinner in size on top than they are closer to the body of the furniture.
Premier Construction on the cushion also provides the right amount of comfort and support for a long or short sit.
Along with the stationary piece, the Dora also comes as a swivel gliding chair. With the swivel gliding chair, not only can you glide back and forth like a rocker, but you can also rotate at a full 360-degrees thanks to the swivel base.
Finally, the Dora also comes as a matching ottoman, which you can use as an extra seat for guests or as a footrest for the stationary chair.
Some may not think about it, but the size and dimensions can tell you a lot about a furniture frame. When getting a new furniture item, it is always important to Measure Your Space.
Since the size of the Dora is wider than other stationary chairs, Marianne says there might be a better option for those needing a chair in a small space.
She also says that the Dora Swivel Chair might benefit those who need a swivel accent chair in an open-concept living area. “That way, you can see everything around you without moving your neck,” she says.
Regarding who can sit in this chair comfortably, the Dora is suitable for those who are taller. Specifically, those between the heights of 5’10” to 6’2” would be best suited for this chair.
While your height can be a considerable factor, it is important to note that height guidelines are NOT set in stone. The way you sit in a furniture item can drastically affect how someone might find a seat comfortable.
This is why we highly recommend coming in-store and taking a sit test to determine if the Dora is right for your unique body type. To learn more, take a look at our article How to Find a Recliner That is The Best Fit For You.

In addition to the cover options mentioned above, the Dora comes in specialty fabrics that offer unique features and benefits …
Innovative iClean Technology surrounds each fabric fibre, creating a barrier that repels spills before turning into stains.
Tested and formulated to withstand the scratches and wear that a pet can cause to ensure a durable and easily washable fabric.
Antimicrobial properties surround each fibre to protect against mould, mildew and odour-causing bacteria.
Superior stain and fade resistance properties make fabrics easy to clean and incredibly durable.
Conserve Sustainable Fabrics are soft, durable and made from recycled water bottles.
Restore by Nanobionic® features a mineral-based fabric coating that transforms natural body heat into energy using infrared technology.
At an additional cost, Dora's cushions can also be upgraded to include firmer cushioning, meaning over time, your furniture will remember your unique figure and enhance the comfort of your furniture. This could be a great option for people with mobility issues, allowing you to get in and out of your furniture more comfortably.
For more information on whether this upgrade is right for you, view our Designer's Choice Collection catalogue.
Customers can also choose a contrasting welt trim to accentuate the chair's design. Pattern welt trim options are also available to make an aesthetically pleasing accent chair.
La-Z-Boy is all about customization, including customizing the the swivel base of your chair. The Dora swivel base can come in one of two finish options:
Marianne explains that the Dora’s cost is in the low-mid price range for a chair at La-Z-Boy.
With that being said, La-Z-Boy furniture is made with high-quality materials and skilled craftsmanship, which is reflected in a higher cost compared to some other furniture retailers on the market.

Star ratings can only tell you so much. Here is what some La-Z-Boy customers are saying about the Dora…
Now that you know everything you need to know about the Dora chair and its variations, there’s no doubt that it is the right chair for you… or is there?
For those still wondering if you should get the Dora, let’s take a look at your budget, the functionality and the style of the chair overall.
As mentioned before, the cost of the Dora is still fairly expensive for those not used to La-Z-Boy’s pricing. La-Z-Boy is more expensive because of the materials used to build the furniture, which makes the furnishings last longer.
If you’re interested in furniture that is going to support you for many years, the Dora might be right for you.
With functionality, the Dora is best suited for taller users who have an average build. Marianne says those with slim arms might enjoy Dora’s wedged arms better.
If you’re also trying to furnish a smaller space, this chair might not be right for you since it is bulkier than our other stationary furniture items.
With style, however, the Dora can fit in a multitude of rooms. Since this chair exudes more of a mid-century modern look, the Dora would pair well with something more modern or traditional. Marianne says, “Because the Dora is a stationary chair, it can go well with any stationary furniture that has a mid-century look.”
The Dora also looks good as an accent chair. To learn more, take a look at our Stationary Accent Chairs article.
