At La-Z-Boy, you can find recliners in all shapes and sizes. Some recliners are better for small spaces like the popular Vail Recliner, and there are our best-sellers like the winged back Rowan.
Although these recliners can take up quite a bit of room and complement many individuals, there are some recliners that go beyond the regular size and help fill in larger gaps. Enter the Redwood, one of the biggest recliners that La-Z-Boy has to offer.
One of the design consultants at La-Z-Boy Kanata jokingly called the Redwood “The Santa Chair” since it is so big in size. Racha Pharaon, one of the design consultants at this location, says “You can definitely tell by looking at this recliner compared to others that it is much bigger.”
But, with such a huge recliner, who would this furniture item be perfect for, and why would it be right for you? This article will help answer those questions and give you everything you need to know about the Redwood.
In This Article…
Bringing comfort to new heights, the Redwood features many “tall” enhancements that come standard with this furniture frame. Normally, tall enhancements need to be requested for a furniture frame, but since Redwood already has this, it is included in the price. This includes an elongated handle, a summit bucket seat, higher-density foam and an extra-long legrest.
The Redwood is also part of La-Z-Boy’s Summit Series, which includes a small selection of tall and bigger recliners designed to take on strong and heavier individuals.
Aside from the size of this recliner, the Redwood has wide flared arms, and optimal channelled cushioning, all coming together to create a rugged look. This is especially true when looking at its fabric selection.
Lastly, the Redwood is available in either a rocking or wall recliner. The rocking recliner allows you to move in a smooth and graceful motion while the wall recliner allows you to recline fully while staying mere inches away from a wall.
Size and dimensions are everything with a recliner. When purchasing a new furniture frame, it is always important to measure your space to see if your room can fit your next find.
Racha points out that when adding the Redwood to a new room, you must make sure you have lots of space to accommodate a big recliner like this one. “This recliner is huge,” she says, “if you already have a sofa and a loveseat in a small space, this recliner will definitely not be able to fit.”
Because of its larger size, the Redwood may be more suitable for open-concept areas.

As for who can sit comfortably in this furniture frame, the Redwood may be recommended for users who have a heavier build to them or those who have a taller height. More specifically, individuals who have a height of 6’3” and up may feel more comfortable sitting in this recliner than others.
While your height can be a considerable factor, it is important to note that height guidelines are NOT set in stone. The way you sit in a furniture item can drastically affect how someone might find a seat comfortable.
Ultimately, we recommend that you visit a La-Z-Boy showroom and take the Redwood for a sit test with the help of a La-Z-Boy design consultant.

All upholstery furniture at La-Z-Boy is customizable. Give the Redwood recliner your own personal touch by choosing from a range of options and upgrades.
It is important to note that by selecting any options and upgrades in this section, the cost of the Redwood product is subject to increase.
La-Z-Boy has over 800 fabrics and leathers to choose from, making the experience of personalizing your furniture seemingly endless.
The Redwood recliner has 5 select fabric covers to compliment its unique frame. Racha says that each colour is darker in shade, but can go well with multiple different contemporary styles.
Select fabrics are included in the starting price of the Redwood recliner. Non-select fabrics or leathers will incur an additional cost.
As for Redwood’s leather options, there are 2 select leather options. Customers can choose between the tasteful wine or the delicious chocolate. You can learn more about La-Z-Boy’s Leather Selection by checking out this article.
Leather options - even select leather - will always increase the overall cost. Ultimately, the choice of choosing fabric or leather is up to you.
Please note that this article's leather or fabric options may be discontinued or unavailable without prior notice. We recommend contacting your local Ottawa or Kingston La-Z-Boy store by phone or in-person to confirm availability. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by any changes to our upholstery selection.
In addition to the cover options mentioned above, the Redwood is offered in specialty fabrics that offer unique features and benefits…
Innovative iClean Technology surrounds each fabric and leather fibre, creating a barrier that repels spills before turning into stains.
Tested and formulated to withstand the scratches and wear that a pet can cause to ensure a durable and easily washable fabric.
Antimicrobial properties surround each cover to protect against mould, mildew, and odour-causing bacteria.
Superior stain and fade resistance properties make fabrics easy to clean and incredibly durable.
Conserve Sustainable Fabrics are soft, durable and made from recycled water bottles.
Restore by Nanobionic® features a mineral-based fabric coating that transforms natural body heat into energy using infrared technology.
For an additional cost, Redwood offers cushion upgrades that provide firmer support and improve the comfort of your furniture over time.
These upgraded cushions are designed to conform to your unique figure, allowing for a more personalized seating experience. This could be a great option for people with mobility issues, allowing you to get in and out of your furniture more comfortably.

To add more style to your La-Z-Boy recliner, you can customize the material of the convenient reclining handle.
At an extra cost, you can choose from various materials for the handle, including wooden, brushed nickel, or matte black. The chrome handle can also be elongated, matching the wooden one in size.
What’s more, for all left-handed users, you can change your handle from the standard right side to the left. This option also comes at an additional cost.
If you're interested, the Redwood rocking recliner is available with a swivel base for an extra cost. La-Z-Boy's swivel bases provide a 360-degree rotation, allowing you to turn and face any direction easily.
You can also upgrade your swivel base into a power swivel recliner, which can recline at the touch of a button. The power swivel base, however, only rotates 165 degrees to prevent the power cord from getting tangled within the furniture frame.
To learn more about our Swivel chair options, check out our list of Swivel Accent Chairs.
If you opt for the Redwood Rocking Recliner or the upgraded swivel base, you also have the option to customize the wood finish base. Choosing from different wood base finish colours can help you create a more cohesive and refined look for your furniture and your room as a whole.
The Redwood offers the following wood finish options:
You can upgrade the Redwood to power.
Instead of using a handle or a latch, like with manual furniture, the power recliner has a wireless remote on the right side of the chair. With this, you can recline at the touch of a button, as well as control the adjustable headrest support.
The adjustable headrest allows you to move the head of the recliner from 0-55 degrees, giving you more range of motion with your reclining positions.
You can also control the lower lumbar area of your recliner with the wireless remote. In this case, the lumbar support can expand 3 inches out or deflate to perfectly match the unique curvature of your lumbar spine.
What’s more, the recliners have USB ports next to the control panels to charge your electronic devices, as well as two memory settings that allow you to save any of your favourite relaxing positions. This way, you can easily recline back to the position you favour quickly and accurately.
If you need help with learning about the controls, check out La-Z-Boy Power Furniture: How to Use the Control Panel & Remote.
All power upgrades can be cordless, thanks to our rechargeable battery pack. With this, you can place your power recliners anywhere without worrying about plugging them into an electrical outlet.

In terms of cost, Redwood’s modern recliners fall within the high price range at La-Z-Boy. To learn more, check out the Cost of Recliners at La-Z-Boy. This is mainly due to the construction of the frame and because it uses more materials.
While the cost of the Redwood is quite standard at La-Z-Boy, it is important to note that La-Z-Boy furniture is considered expensive on the market. This cost is reflected in the quality of materials and craftsmanship of our products.
With this, the investment tends to be worthwhile if you are looking for long-lasting furniture.

Star reviews can only tell you so much. Here is what reviewers are honestly saying about the Redwood Recliner…
So, now that you have a better understanding of the Redwood recliner, you might be wondering if this recliner is the right item for you. To help you with your decision, here are some quick things to consider about this grand recliner.
Beginning with cost, the price of the Redwood is higher than other recliners. However, do not let this scare you away.
The reason why the redwood is more expensive than our other affordable recliners is that this recliner is made to withstand heavier weight, ultimately meaning that it uses more durable materials and goes through more strength testing.
Because of these factors, and the fact that La-Z-Boy is normally made with high-quality materials, the price of the Redwood will be higher. But, this also means that your recliner will last longer than other normal recliners out there. So, if you’re willing to spend a little more so you can have your recliner for a long time, the Redwood could be right for you.
Continuing over to size, this recliner is made for larger areas and people. If you’re furnishing an area with less space, the Redwood might interfere with your other furniture, creating a traffic flow issue. This is why open-concept spaces are better for this recliner.
When it comes to the person, this is more subjective. Racha says, “even though it is recommended for larger users, I’ve had short people love this chair because it gives them an opportunity to have a space where they can sit with their pets.”
So, depending on your seating preferences, the Redwood could be right for you. If you're looking for a smaller recliner, but still love the style of the Redwood, you might be interested in the Rosewood, which is the same as the Redwood excluding the tall enhancements.
Lastly, when looking at the style of the Redwood, it takes on a more contemporary look and can work well in rugged aesthetics. If you have an industrial-looking themed house, the darker colours of the select fabrics might do well in this environment, however, Racha says that the Redwood can fit many different styles.
It is important to take note of the size of your pre-existing furniture. For example, if you have a sofa or loveseat that looks smaller than the Redwood, it might make your living room look awkward and not cohesive.
If you do have larger furniture already, this recliner might be right for you.
After learning about our large and in-charge Redwood Recliner, you can make a well-informed decision on whether this furniture frame is the right option for you.
